What is double cleansing?
Double cleansing is step 1 and step 2 of the whole korean skincare routine. First, you use an oil cleanser followed by a foaming facial wash. The oil cleanser can be in liquid form or a balm. Personally, I prefer using liquid form because it is easier to dispense. However, let's not discount the fact that there are many great reviews about cleansing balms.
This is the most important step of the whole skincare routine. Oil cleansing works deeply to clean the pores. It removes heavy makeup, dirt, spf etc. It's an extra step to make sure the face is cleaner, so that the succeeding products from Steps 3-10 will absorb better. If your face isn't clean and pores are blocked, then you will not reap the benefits of your expensive serums, moisturizers, etc.

Improve pore appearance, reduce sebaceous filaments with this step.
The second wash continues to remove further the remains from the 1st step.
You can do both steps in the morning and evening as you please. For some like me, I do double cleansing in the evening or end of day, after my face was most exposed to dirt, oil, and makeup. Update: I now make it a point to wash

- BANILA CO Clean it Zero Cleansing Balm (highly rated)
- Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser - available in Walmart/Shoppers Drug Mart (another favorite. wonderful ingredients!)
- COSRX – Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser
- Sulwhasoo – Snowise EX Cleansing Foam
- Hada Labo – Goku-Jyun Super Hyaluronic Face Foam
* All other brands for Step 1 - Oil cleansing *
* All other brands for Step 2 - Facial wash (foam/gel etc.)*
The beauty of this is that products don't have to be entirely Korean or Asian to follow the 10-step routine. You can switch it up from Asian to North American brands and more. Whatever works for your skin!
